A small light, kept burning after dusk.
Jugnu — जुगनू — is the Hindi word for firefly, the small light that appears as evening falls.
On Anketell Street in Greenway, that light is the glow of our chef, bringing the flavours of two Indias to Canberra: the smoky comfort of the coastal south and the bold, spicy flavours of the north — dal simmered for twenty-four hours and naan pulled fresh from the clay oven.
At Jugnu, meals are made for the middle of the table, to be shared until the last piece of garlic naan wipes the bowl clean. Come hungry. Leave as family.

From the coast come coconut, curry leaves and tamarind; from the north, the tandoor, slow gravies and warm spice. Our chef cooks both with the same patience — spice ground fresh, dal simmered a full day, bread pulled from the clay oven to order.
Good produce, honest technique and time. That is the whole secret.

Tandoor and coal, tended for hours — and dal simmered a full twenty-four.
Whole spices, roasted and ground in-house. It is the difference you can taste.
Made for the middle of the table. Come hungry, leave as family.
